One of the first blockbusters of the summer is based on the wildly popular Dan Brown novel, Angels and Demons, the prequel to the controversial The DaVinci Code. While we don’t want to get into the spiritual implications of the movie or the book, it caused many of us to wonder are there really such things as Angels and Demons? Is there an unseen spiritual world where a battle for souls and spirits rage? We will take a few weeks to explore the myths and the truths of Angels and Demons and the Spiritual warfare for our souls.

Modern thought and much of ancient thought has speculated on the idea that every person has their own personal guardian angel that looks out for them. That is a really cool and comforting thought, but the question is – is it true? On this day we will take a look at the Bible and what it has to say about angels, their purpose, and how they interact with people.
- July 5 – Demonizing Demons -- Outline
Curiosity exists about why there is so much evil in the world and just how does it affect our lives? Do we have evil inherent within us and can the devil and his demons actually make us do bad things? All of us have thought these thoughts and just as quickly, we have discarded them as only fodder for the insane. Yet in the back of our minds, the question still exists. Are there demons influencing my behavior and that of others in society?
- July 12 – The Devil That Is Me -- Outline
“The devil made me do it,” or even “God is testing me by putting temptation in front of me.” True? No, we are most responsible for our sins and our mistakes. Before Jesus paid the price for our sins, this world was the devil’s and he caused much havoc in the lives of people. But Jesus defeated Satan at the cross and the devil is now simply a defeated foe. However, evil still exists. To be free from evil, we must denounce any influence from Satan by acknowledging Jesus as our Lord and Savior and create a life style of seeking Him.

The Spirit that is alive and possessing people today is the Holy Spirit of God. He indwells those who choose to allow Him to and He influences those He possesses away from sin and toward that which will fulfill their lives. The Holy Spirit of God is among the positive nature of all that is good happening in our lives and in the world. Even though you may be uncomfortable with the idea of the Holy Spirit of God possessing you that does not mean it is not so. Most of us struggle with anything that does not fit the scientific process of the tangible senses. Yet would it be wise to trust our eternal or even our present existence to a God that could be explained by fallible and mistake-prone humanity? |
