“Fear!” The word itself evokes deep-seated emotion in all of us. It slakes down our throat and shivers our spine with a tingling sensation of adrenaline and dread simultaneously. We do not like fear, yet all of us fear something. Fear drives us both positively and negatively. Some of us have a handle on our fears and they are healthy reminders that keep us safe. Some of us allow our fears to rule our lives stealing years from our lives and peace from our relationships with God and Man. In this series we are going to examine “Fear” and try to put it in its proper perspective in our lives! Fear? Don’t be scared!
We are a society obsessed with fear, from the legendary reaction to Orson Welles’ “War of the Worlds” to the recent Stock Market crashes. Fear can either paralyze us and tyrannize our lives, or stimulate us and motivate us to greatness. This message addresses the various types of fears, discusses God’s attitude towards our fearfulness, and explains Biblical principles for overcoming anxiety.

Everyone has dreams and hopes for the future, and it is the fear of failure that keeps these secret goals locked deep inside. If we reject our culture’s skewed definition of success, we will be able to see the folly of its view of failure. In this message, we will seek God’s Biblical definition of success, focusing on relationships, character, and management. We will also discuss the many ways to approach the fear of failure. Each of us has failed, and we need to use our failures to grow not allow them to drag us down.
Our culture is characterized by a lack of commitment, from month-to-month apartment leases to pre-nuptial agreements. This message outlines the various reasons why we shy away from commitment, and looks in depth into areas of our life that need commitment from us: our families (both our spouses and our children) and our friends. Without that level of dedication, we will never find relational fulfillment.
- November 16 - Fear of God -
- Dig Deeper - (No Outline Available) The fear of God is one of the most misunderstood concepts in the Bible. Many people, usually because of how their earthly father acted, have a faulty view of their Heavenly Father. They see him as being either too lenient, too strict, or completely absent. All three attitudes miss out on the true nature of the fear of God. This message explores the Biblical perspective on the only fear we are commanded to have, and seeks to clarify the seesaw relationship between love and fear of God.
In this message we will analyze the idea of loneliness versus being alone. Billy Graham has called it man’s greatest problem, yet the Bible says over 300 times that we are not to be anxious about being alone. We will discuss the difference between loneliness and being alone, and divide loneliness into three levels: the deepest level being a spiritual loneliness growing out of our need for a personal relationship with Christ.
This message will take a very direct approach to one of the greatest fears that we all have - facing eternity and our huge fear of the unknown. “The statistics on death are quite impressive. One out of one die.” wrote George Bernard Shaw. This message looks at the Biblical, rather than pop-culture, perspective on the afterlife and explores what will happen in the first few seconds after we die: the resurrection, the judgment, and the separation. Where are you going to spend your forever?
